SYSTEMS THINKING: AN APPROACH TO PROBLEM SOLVING

Outcomes:

•  Understand Systems Thinking concepts and their application

•  Experience several tools for re-designing inefficient processes

THE ART AND SCIENCE OF PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING

Developing problem solving competency is essential for today's leaders. So often, problems are addressed by merely treating the immediate symptoms. When real or root cause is not identified and addressed, the problem resurfaces. This is frustrating for the people involved and costly for the organization.

Problem solving and decision-making are both art and science. The art involves understanding the various problem solving paradigms that people bring to the problem solving event. The science relates to the application of a structured process to address a problem. This program recognizes and addresses both the art and science of problem solving.

Participants will learn a systematic process for analyzing a problem by making an educated choice from a list of well-defined alternatives. This session provides a proactive vs. reactive approach to problem solving that helps to build consensus and commitment.

Case studies, as well as real work related problems, will be used by participants to practice, and gain competency with, the problem solving and decision making models. Interaction will be encouraged throughout the session to enhance dialogue and learning.
